Harold Brown of "Nature's Poison Ivy Cure," Richmond, Maine
By Bob Rand

Bob Rand lives in the beautiful seacoast area of New Hampshire. He's "semi-retired" and whenever
traveling, visits and enjoys the upbeat, friendly and wholesome feel of farmers' markets. He's always seeking farmers and craftspeople who want to offer their products in Buy Direct — The Virtual Farmers' Market.
Harold Brown is a man bursting with energy. He's 70 years old and sleeps just 4-5
hours a night. Always been that way he says. "Maybe too much energy".... Harold
laughs.
His lack of sleep time gives him many extra hours of daylight each day. And although he
is a "retired" dairy farmer Harold is now keeping very busy satisfying his
entrepreneurial instincts. Harold has always made his living organically, way before
it was fashionable. Way back. Read more to learn what Harold is up to these days. He
has created a farmers' market product you should know more about.
Years ago, while still a young boy, Harold's grandfather showed him how to locate and
harvest the leaves from a naturally growing shrub and to prepare them in a specific
manner that can be traced back to the Native Americans centuries ago. Harold has been
using these simple techniques for over 60 years. Harold's product cures poison ivy!
When harvested, dried and boiled the resulting liquid almost immediately stops the
fierce itching and subsequent spread of poison ivy. Symptoms clear up within 24 hours
— far quicker than with other remedies. Over the years Harold never forgot his
grandfather's lessons and he has made sure that his family and friends always had a
supply of his magic potion nearby.
In the rural area of Maine where he lives Harold harvests the leaves of a plant known
as "sweet fern." Sweet fern is a shrub that looks like a fern. The leaves are
harvested in early summer and dried for later use. It is native to Eastern North
America - Nova Scotia south to Georgia and east to Minnesota and Tennessee. It has
beautifully scalloped, deciduous leaves. It is an aromatic astringent herb. It is a
member of the wax myrtle or bayberry family, which grows nearly worldwide, with about
40 species of small trees and shrubs, 5 native tree species, and 3 shrub species in
North America. The leaves are very aromatic when boiled. Here is a picture of its
leaves:

With a harvesting container in hand Harold scours the Maine landscape for the plant.
Many of Harold's favorite locations have been guarded secrets for nearly 60 years
— maybe more.
Over the years Harold gave away his amazing product to friends and family. And here's
where it gets even more interesting. Many of the recipients of the fern swore by its
remedial qualities. When dried and used properly poison ivy's fierce problems are
finessed and cured. Many times over the past 60 years Harold was encouraged to sell
his remedy. Great idea! It is a natural, organic solution to the age-old problem of
poison ivy.
About a year and a half ago Harold finally began his new company "Nature's Poison Ivy
Cure." Using a modest amount of money he created a website, had labels and brochures
printed up with the help of his daughter and he began taking his first steps toward
selling his cure to the public. Word has since spread and Harold's products are now
sold at over a hundred retail stores, farm stands, as well as at organic and gardening
shows, mostly in nearby Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. In the past year and a
half Harold has functioned as the farmer, the processor, the packager and the salesman.
Harold is looking to add additional retail outlets. His product is colorfully packaged
and comes complete with instructions on how to prepare the "sweet fern" leaves.
Wholesale pricing is available for those readers who may wish to offer this product to
their customers.

It's too late. By the time you order the product and it is shipped, a few days can
pass by…too late to stop the oozing, spreading and itching symptoms of the poising ivy.
If you are a hiker, a farmer, a parent or a gardener you should keep some on hand.
You'll be grateful it's nearby when you need it.
Harold is an inspiration to others who have a farm related product that they wish to
